Q: I want to cite Quantum GIS in my thesis. What is the correct citation reference of the Quantum GIS project

A: To cite QGIS software in your piece of work, for work or an assignment, this general citation might be helpful: "Quantum GIS Development Team (YEAR). Quantum GIS Geographic Information System. Q: Why and when was the Quantum GIS project created?

A: The idea was born in February 2002 when Gary Sherman began looking for a GIS viewer for Linux that was fast and supported a wide range of data stores. That, coupled with an interest in coding a GIS application led to the creation of the project.

Q:  I've spent about ~1 hour looking for the best way to report bugs for QGIS, can someone point me in the right direction?

A: The bug tracking system is available at http://hub.qgis.org/projects/quantum-gis/issues or click the QGIS Bugs menu on top of this website. Once there, use the New Ticket button to report a bug. You must have an account and be logged in to submt a bug.

Q: How can I contribute to the Quantum GIS project?

A: The QGIS Project is always looking for volunteers to join the different teams. Contributions can be programming, packaging and platform specific help or non programming help in form of documentation and translation. You find more Information and links here.

Q: I would like to translate the Quantum GIS gui into another, not yet existing language. Who is the right person to contact?

A: GUI translations are managed by the GUI translation team lead of the QGIS community-team. General information about the translation status and process are provided at the translator corner. For many languages there are already translation groups but any help from people who are willing to invest some time translating QGIS into a foreign language are welcome.
