Quantum GIS

Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. QGIS supports vector, raster, and database formats. QGIS is licensed under the GNU General Public License. QGIS lets you browse and create map data on your computer. It supports many common spatial data formats (e.g. ESRI ShapeFile, geotiff). QGIS supports plugins to do things like display tracks from your GPS. QGIS is Open Source software and its free of cost (download here). We welcome contributions from our user community in the form of code contributions, bug fixes, bug reports, contributed documentation, advocacy and supporting other users on our mailing lists and forums. Financial contributions are also welcome.

Here is a nice way to support QGIS - use our start page! Simply point your browser to :

http://qgis.org/start.html

Then set your browser to use that page as its default starup page. Then use the provided google bar as your search form. Every time you click on an ad on the search results page, as small donation will be made to QGIS!

 
GRASS Integration gets better

Followers of the development version will have been watching with interest the increasing number of tools being added to the GRASS toolbox. I plan to make a couple of flash screen movies to illustrate these better. In the mean time I though I would show off just how functional (in terms of range of tools) the GRASS toolbox is becoming with these piccies! Many thanks to Radim Blazek and other GRASS users who may be contributing to his efforts in the background - its really fantastic stuff!

Bleeding Edge Packages

I will be making QGIS Head 'bleeding edge' packages available on an irregular basis. These packages are from the unstable head branch of QGIS CVS and as such should be only used for those wanting to preview features slated for the upcoming release. They could crash your system, make the earth spin backwards and make you see small green men on the ceiling at night. You have been warned!Image
