QGIS Debian packaging (how to install easily from CVS)
Download CVS tarball from:
http://qgis.sourceforge.net/qgis_cvs.tar.bz2?download
(the cvs lags behind)
tar -xjf qgis_cvs.tar.bz2
mv qgis_snapshot_2005-08-11_0545/ (or whatever date)
qgis-0.6.99+0.7.0pre2-0.dgis.unstable.1 (or other name, when changed)
cd qgis-0.6.99+0.7.0pre2-0.dgis.unstable.1/
Download set of debian rules (if not included in the
tarball):
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/qgis
co -P debian
./autogen.sh
(note0: you need automake1.7+libtool)
(note1: autogen needed for CVS, not for release tarball?)
Then either:
su
dpkg-buildpackage
or, as a normal user:
fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage
And finally:
cd ..
dpkg -i qgis_0.6.99+0.7.0pre2-0.dgis.unstable.1-1_i386.deb
qgis-plugin-grass_0.6.99+0.7.0pre2-0.dgis.unstable.1-1_i386.deb

QGIS is Cool! Especially when standing on a chunk of 10,000 year old ice. Gavin Macaulay and Gary Sherman visited the 24 mi by 4 mi (38km by 6km) Matanuska Glacier in Alaska. Gavin (left) was in Alaska attending a conference and did a bit of sightseeing.
This is the first picture of a QGIS T-shirt in a semi-exotic location. Send us your pictures of QGIS in unusual locations and we'll post them to the website for others to enjoy.

During the 6th Arab map conference
(http://www.ngisc.gov.eg/) QGIS had good coverage: one two-day training course on FreeGIS showed its main features, and a workshop was entirely dedicated to FreeGIS (and again, QGIS was among the tools shown). The integration between QGIS and GRASS was especially appreciated. The whole Open Source/Free GIS issue was virtually unknown to many users, developers, and institutions but once explained, the basic concepts and the practical examples raised an enormous interest.
Thanks to all who made this possible. |
